International Conference on “Linkage of higher education, research and international integration to sustainable forest management and bioeconomy"

In the framework of the 55-year Anniversary of Vietnam National University of Forestry's (VNUF) Foundation Program, on the morning of November 12, 2019, VNUF organized the International conference "Linkage of higher education, research and international integration to sustainable forest management and bio-economy".


Attending the Conference, there were a lot of the International guests from over 40 countries in over the world such as HE. Mr. Kari Kahiluoto - Ambassador of Finland to Vietnam, and officials in the delegation; Mr. Chan Nyeint War - Second Secretary of Myanmar Embassy; Mr. Miguel Moro Aguilar - Deputy Ambassador of Spain, and officials in the delegation; Mr. Jussi Rasinmaki - Director of Simosol Vietnam; Mr. Santiago Velasquez - Director of Simosol Finland; Prof. Dr. Elena Kudryashova - Rector of Northern (Arctic) Federal University (NarFU), Russia and NarFU's delegation; as well as scientists,  representatives from ICRAF, FFI, VFD,  Green Annamites (USAID), GIZ, FAO, UNDP, SNRM JICA Project, and Indian and the Philippines Universities, Environment Ltd Adlard, Canada.

From Vietnam, VNUF's international conference also has welcomed important domestic guests from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) – Deputy Director General Prof.Dr. Pham Van Dien of Vietnam Administration of Forestry, Director Vu Xuan Thon of Management Board of Forestry Projects, as well as over 100 scientists, experts from agencies and organizations.

On the side of VNUF, President Prof.Dr. Tran Van Chu; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Cao Quoc An – VNUF's council chairman, and leaders of divisions, professors, lecturers and scientists in VNUF.

Opening the conference, Prof.Dr. Tran Van Chu gave speech on overview of the 55-year contribution and development of VNUF, highlighted outstanding achievements in education and training, scientific research, international cooperation in recent years and development orientations in the following years.

Through the International Conference " LINKAGE OF HIGHER EDUCATION, RESEARCH AND INTERNATIONAL INTEGRATION TO SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT AND BIOECONOMY " held at VNUF, the University leaders express their hope that it is becoming an important forum for scientists, managers and educational institutions to share their perspectives, ideas and recommendations to improve their capacity in developing, sustainable forest management and bio-economics in the current integration era.

Over the past years, the close and long-term cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Finland in the forestry sector in general and with VNUF in particular has always been focused on developing. HE. Mr. Kari Kahiluoto - Ambassador of Finland hoped and believed in the future that there will be many effective cooperation programs in training and scientific research between both sides.

According to Mr. Vu Xuan Thon - Director of Management Board of Forestry Projects, MARD shared: The link plays a very important role in helping the training institution orient students on practical issues that have been and are being implemented in order to help learners access faster to the real job demand after graduation. Besides, it helps the employers can access a team of highly educated, qualified people thereby improving the quality of work efficiency.

For more than 55 years, VNUF has always been the leading university in the country in terms of forestry, with a worldwide reputation for the quality of training and scientific research in the fields of forestry, Resources management, Environment, Wood Industry, Rural Development and some related fields. In recent years, the University and the Management Board of Forestry Projects have had close cooperation programs through signing memorandums of understanding, jointly organizing seminars and developing curriculam, and so on.

At the workshop, the delegates listened to scientists, agencies and organizations presenting the current issues in scientific research and training; opportunities and challenges as well as cooperative opportunities for sustainable forest resource management, including forests, bio-economy in Vietnam and internationally.

At the same time, the conference also received many comments from international experts on training in forestry fields, from which the University will make more appropriate adjustments to training programs in order to meet the high quality human resources for society and employers.

The contents were presented in the conference helped participants to gain a complete picture of each area to be developed in joint training and research in the areas of sustainable forest management and bio-economy in current international integration.

The Conference was divided into 2 sessions to discuss (1) Sustainable Forest Management and (2) Forest-based and Bio-economy Development. The participants focused on improving and disseminating knowledge about methods, policies and science and technology to enhance forest management and sustainable bio-economic development.

Closing remarks at the Conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui The Doi - Vice President of VNUF would like to express his thanks and wishes in the future to receive continuously the attention, cooperation, sharing and contributing professional opinions of scientists and organizations, individuals and donors in training and developing science and technology towards international integration. The shared opinions, suggestions and results achieved in the conference will be the basis for the University to have more appropriate and effective orientations for developing training, research, international integration in the future.
