Workshop on sharing/exchanging knowledge and experiences on policy implementation of Payment for Forest Environmental Service (PFES)

On 09 January 2018, at Institute for Forest Ecology and Environment (IFEE) of VNUF in collaboration with partners including the FAO Cambodia, UNDP Cambodia conducted the workshop on "Sharing/exchanging knowledge and experiences on policy implementation of Payment for Forest Environmental Service (PFES)".

Attending the workshop were Mr. Nguyen Song Ha- Assistant Chief Representative of FAO Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Ba Ngai - Deputy Director General of Vietnam Administration of Forestry; Ms. Ann Chansopheak- Representative of FAO Cambodia; Mr. Vu Hong Luong- Director of Financial Planning Department; Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy - Deputy Director of REED+ Program; and representatives from organization inside and outside.

From Vietnam National University of Forestry, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quang Bao - Vice President, Dr. Le Sy Doanh - Director of Institute for Forest Ecology and Environment (IFEE), and staffs of IFEE.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Ba Ngai - Deputy Director General of Vietnam Administration of Forestry emphasized that the workshop will be an opportunity for managers, stakeholders to share, learn from experiences, innovate in forest protection and development; experts and scientists will discuss and give solution on PFES policy to apply an effective in Vietnam and Cambodia.

At the workshop, participants have access to Vietnamese policymakers and stakeholder representatives on policy and financial mechanisms to share experiences in apply policies. and similar programs in Cambodia. Representative of the FAO Cambodia hoped that receive the attention and sharing of Vietnamese organizations, stakeholders, PFES experts in order to apply the actual operation in the Cambodian provinces.

The workshop receives many opinions from scientists and experts focus on Overview of Vietnam Forest Protection and Development Fund and REDD+ Fund in Vietnam, PFES. Besides, the workshop discussed and gave effective solutions, promoted the implementation on the policy, proposed to exploit the potential of PFES associated with the implementation of the forest protection and development plan and other forestry development policies.

Summarize the workshop, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Quang Bao, Vice President of VNUF highly appreciated the results achieved after discussion between experts and delegates. The workshop is a useful forum for scientists, representatives of international organizations in Vietnam and Cambodia. Especially, this workshop opened up new and deeper research directions as well as opened up opportunities for collaborative research among scientists in the future.
