WORKSHOP: European-Vietnamese higher education network for Sustainable forest- and Bio-economy

Within A framework of the Erasmus project funded by the European Union (European Community Action Scheme for Mobility of University Students), a workshop "European-Vietnamese higher education network for Sustainable forest- and Bio-economy" was held at the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (XAMK) - Mikkeili city, Finland from 12-15 June 2018.

Attending the workshop were Prof.Dr. Mund Jan Peter - Project Director, Dr. Kevin Beller - Project Coordinator and experts, scientists from the the South-Eastern Finland Univer, Eberswalde University - Germany; University of Valladolid - Spain; Some universities from Vietnam including: Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF), Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry, and University of Natural Sciences (Hanoi National University).

The delegation of VNUF consists of Prof.Dr. Tran Van Chu - President, the delegation leader, together with Assoc.Prof.Dr. Hoang Van Sam - Head of International Cooperation Division and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Cao Quoc An - Head of Academic Affairs Division.

Following the success of the first technical workshop "European-Vietnamese higher education network for Sustainable forest- and Bio-economy" held at VNUF, the workshop at XAMK focuses on policy discussion on forestry, bio-economics of countries; Implementation plan for the Master training program in the European-Vietnamese higher education network under the Erasmus+ program from 2018 to 2020 and detailed syllabuses. The workshop also received comments and shared views from representatives of universities on Sustainable forestry and Bio-economics; Group discussions on building and developing textbooks and modules of the curriculum.

Representatives have agreed to coordinate the curriculum development plan, to divide responsibilities for each university, to commit to perform duties well in the development of lecture modules, data sharing, project website development, to implement the E-learning process.

On the sidelines of the workshop, the President of VNUF visited the facilities such as: Lecture hall, Laboratory, Library of XAMK and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with XAMK and Eberswalde University - Germany in training, scientific research, exchange of lecturers, students between universities. This is a great opportunity for VNUF to improve its international cooperations and expertises.

In conclution, Prof.Dr. Mund Jan Peter - Project Director on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the workshop to thank the European Commission, Project sponsors, representatives of universities, experts attended and commented in the workshop. The results achieved during the workshop will be the basis for participating universities to study and accelerate the process of developing the curriculum for the master's degree in Sustainable forestry and Bio-economics in order to implement for postgraduate programs at universities in the project.

The workshops were successful, and all participating univresities have committed to make the project successful and bring many benefits to universities in the network.
