ERASMUS+ CAPACITY BUILDING IN HIGHER EDUCATION - YESTERDAY AND TOMORROW

Within the Erasmus program for sharing experiences with Vietnamese higher education institutions as well as introduce The Erasmus+ capacity building in higher education in the period 2021-2027, the Organizing Committee consists of The European Delegation to Vietnam, the French Embassy, the Italian Embassy, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Training, EURAXESS ASEAN, the ICISE center collaborate together to held the Erasmus+ International Conference capacity building: YESTERDAY and TOMORROW in 3 days, from 19 to 21 May 2022 at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE), Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh.

From 2015 to 2020 Vietnam is involved in 74 programs – which makes it the most mobilized country – with 94 universities, scientific institutions and administrations, in which there are 5 projects were coordinated by Vietnamese universities.

At the Conference, there were nearly 200 delegates from universities from North to South of Vietnam. It is as a forum for sharing experience of building proposals as well as implementing projects from universities that have participated in the Erasmus+ project programs such as: University of Danang, Hue University, Hanoi University, University of Can Tho, University of Sciences (Vietnam National University Hanoi), Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology.

Thank to the invitation of the French Embassy, ​Vietnam National ​University of Forestry has a representative - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Xuan Phuong participated in the conference within the framework of Erasmus+ Capacity Building project FOREST – Future ORiented chEmiSTry collaborate between European universities and Russian partners to implement. The FOREST project is aimed at enhancing employability of chemistry graduates and quality of chemistry education through introducing an interdisciplinary Master's programs: Sustainable Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry. In addition, the Master's program has opportunities for student exchange between universities through the training courses (Summer school, in the elective program) and also accumulate credits under ECTS. This is very consistent with the credit training system that universities are implementing in Vietnam currently.

The experiences from European partners were being shared such as University of Cantania, Italy (MARE project); Sapienza University of Rome (GREENUS project);

At the conference, Mr. Adrian Veale - Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG-EAC) from Brussels agency was sharing about European High Education Policy and New ERASMUS 2021-2027. The regulations as well as the Erasmus+ project management experience were also shared by University of Toulouse 2 helping the other universities understand more about new regulations when applying for the project in this new phase.

The EURAXESS ASEAN was represented by Dr. Jenny Elmaco, also shared training and research scholarship opportunities for Vietnamese staff and students with European universities beyond the Erasmus+ programmes.

In particular, the delegates also listened to experience sharing from schools that have just submitted proposals this year such as Da Lat University (SUCCESS project); Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources (CADEO project); Hanoi University of Science – VNU (Virtual Forest Project).

The participants were very excited to discuss together to gain more experience, in order to create new synergies and help íntitutions that have not implemented the ERASMUS program before will have the opportunity to be more knowledgeable and motivated in international cooperation in the field of higher education, it is also helping Vietnamese education reach new heights.

The conference has left the positive effects that the Erasmus+ program brought to the universities, it created new a creative inspiration to help the universities become more confidence and expand cooperation through the Erasmus+ projects, create a bridge between Vietnamese higher education institutions and European universities. Many new connections between universities have been established, promising a deeper international cooperation network in Vietnam to be formed and further developed.
