The delegations of the Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF) led by Assoc.Prof. Dr. Cao Quoc An, University Council Chairman paid a visit to the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) on the 27 June 2022


VNUF delegation includes: Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Sam – Director of International Cooperation Division; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ly Tuan Truong - Dean of the College of Wood Industry and Interior Design; Mr. Dao Duy Phuong – Director of Finance and Accounting Division; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Xuan Phuong – Vice Director of International Cooperation Division.

VNUF delegation was welcomed by the management of University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences including: Dr. Katrin Hassenhundl – Deputy Head of International Relations, Erasmus Program Coordinator; Prof. Dr. Dietmar Haltrich – Head of Department of Food Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Axel Mentler – Institute of Soil Research; Dr. Andreas Ottitsch – Forestry Advisor; Prof. Dr. Harald Vacik – Head of the Institute of Silviculture; Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Gindl-Altmutter – Head of the Institute of Wood Technology and Renewable Materials; Professor Rupert Wimmer – Head of Bioresources and Technologies (BiRT).

On behalf of BOKU, Dr. Katrin Hassenhundl gave an overview of BOKU with its 150-year history and its strengths in the fields of forestry, agriculture and life sciences. Prof. Dr. Dietmar Haltrich shared more about cooperation opportunities with BOKU, especially the European-Asian University Network (ASEA-UNINET) of which the professor is the coordinator. This is an important cooperation channel to promote staff/student exchange programs between European and Asian universities as well as Vietnam. Scholarship opportunities and exchange programs for Vietnamese students were also shared by Prof. Dr. Dietmar Haltrich.

Working with Prof. Dr. Axel Mentler - Director of the Soil Science Research Institute, Prof. Harald Vacik, Institute of Silviculture, the two sides discussed research programs and opportunities for cooperation in training and scientific research in the future. Especially studies on the correlation between soil, forest and climate; carbon accumulation in agro-forestry and forest resource management.

Besides, in an online meeting with the Institute of Wood Technology and Renewable Materials, Prof. Wolfgang Gindl-Altmutter and Professor Rupert Wimmer also introduced the Institute's research strengths in the field of wood technology, new materials as well as dust control in manufacturing mills to reduce waste, bioactive substances science and application, environmental safe materials and microbiological technology.

 

Appreciating the applied researches of BOKU, the Chairman of the University Council of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cao Quoc An expressed that the two universities would continue to collaborate together to develop new research ideas to support the development of the forestry field and wood industry in Vietnam in the future.

Within the framework of the mission, the VNUF delegation also visited the laboratories of the Institute of Forest and Soil Science and heard about the Institute's new research results in the field of forestry and soil science, especially the directions of the Institute of Forestry and Soil Science.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides expressed their wish to cooperate in building new projects in the future in the fields of forestry, resource management and wood processing and promote exchange scholarship programs. members, students.
