On May 23, 2022, Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF) had a meeting with the delegation of University of Sopron (UoS), Hungary, there were Prof. Dr. Róbert Németh – Head of the doctoral school of wood sciences and technologies, Dr. Sándor Fehér - Head of the department of Wood machining and Harvesting Technology and PhD student Dénes Horváth.

Attending the meeting, there were Assoc.Prof. Dr. Cao Quoc An - Chairman of the University Council, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Van Khoa - Vice President; Leaders of Division of International Cooperation, Postgraduate training; College of Wood Industry and Interior design; Faculty of Forest Resources and Environmental Management.

The visiting of the Hungarian delegation and the working between VNUF and UoS is within the framework of the joint Erasmus+ project on exchange of lecturers and students in order to promote cooperation in training and scientific research funded by the European Union. Prof. Dr. Róbert Németh was happy to share that the Covid-19 pandemic has been controlled and Vietnam and Hungary have opened again for exchanging activities and continue implementing activities of this Erasmus+ project. He also introduced that UoS has been established since 1735 associated with the training of human resources for the mining and metal industry and because of wood demand for the development of the industry that formed the Faculty of Wood Engineering. The university is considered as one of the first technical training university in Europe, so the university is very proud of its in-depth research in the field of woodworking as well as new technologies in the wood industry in particular and the forestry field in general.

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Van Khoa was delighted to thank for the visiting and working of the delegation and highly appreciated the prestige and training level of UoS in the field of forestry in general. Besides, the two sides also discussed new cooperation opportunities such as:

- Cooperation in training at undergraduate, master and doctoral levels especially in fields of wood processing technology, forestry, and economics.

- Cooperate to exchange of lecturers/students within the framework of the scholarship program from the governments of two countries.

- Cooperate to propose the research projects within the framework of the two countries' protocol projects and other research support programs funded by the European Union such as Horizon Europe, New European Bauhaus, etc.

At the meeting, the leaders of two universities discussed and agreed to implement the above cooperation ideas. Prof. Dr. Róbert Németh believed that the cooperation between the two universities will be better and stronger in the future. In particular, UoS would like to welcome a delegation from VNUF to visit Sopron in this June within the framework of the Erasmus+ project.

In the afternoon of the same day, the delegation of University of Sopron also had a seminar with staff, lecturers and students of the University, sharing new research results such as wood bending technology for think beam, wood modification to increase fire retardant for wood materials, technology to create semi-transparent materials applied in design, increase aesthetics, technology to identify natural defects using online camera to classify wood defects on automatic wood processing lines, using bamboo in construction structures.
