On 22 May 2025, Vietnam National University of Forestry participated in the Forum of Rectors of Vietnamese and Russian Universities. The forum was jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, with the participation of representatives from more than 100 universities from Vietnam and Russia.
Attending the conference were Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko. Also attending were Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son; Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Ilyich Mogilevsky; along with many leaders of ministries and central agencies.
Speaking at the conference Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc emphasized that the Third Forum of Rectors of Vietnamese and Russian Universities held particularly important significance as a key activity of the Vietnam–Russia year of Science and Education Cooperation 2026. The highest leaders of the two countries had agreed to reposition and elevate bilateral relations across all fields in the new era of development, including cooperation in education and training.

Every year, the Russian Government grants Vietnam 1,000 scholarships at different levels of education, serving as clear evidence of the commitments and determination of both sides to promote effective and close cooperation in education, thereby making an important contribution to the development of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

At the conference, many participants expressed the view that Vietnam–Russia educational cooperation in the coming period could develop more deeply through co-supervision of doctoral candidates, establishment of joint research groups, short-term scholar exchanges, development of joint laboratories, international publications, and cooperation in training human resources for strategic technology sectors.

Representing Vietnam National University of Forestry at the conference were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Van Khoa – Vice President; Prof. Hoang Van Sam – Director of the International Cooperation Division; Dr. Nguyen Ba Long – Director of the College of Land Management and Rural Development; and Assoc. Prof. Le Xuan Phuong – Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Division.
At the forum, Vietnam National University of Forestry held discussions and signed a memorandum of understanding with State University of Land Use Planning of the Russian Federation to promote international cooperation activities in education, scientific research, and exchanges of lecturers and students.
State University of Land Use Planning is one of the oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions in the Russian Federation, established in 1779 in Moscow. The university has strengths in education and research in the fields of land management, territorial planning, cadastre, real estate, landscape architecture, and rural development.

Previously, on 21 May 2026, Prof. Dr. Alexey Valerievich Sereda – Vice President of State University of Land Use Planning – visited and worked at Vietnam National University of Forestry, and highly appreciated the cooperation potential between the two universities in the areas of education, scientific research, and international academic exchange.
