Greater Mekong Sub-region Forestry University Presidents Forum
21 tháng 11, 2024The forum welcomed Dr. Lu De, Executive Director of APFNet, as well as representatives from the Yunnan Provincial Departments of Education, Forestry, and Science and Technology. Leadership from forestry universities in the Mekong region also attended. The delegation from Vietnam National University of Forestry was led by Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Sam, Director of the International Cooperation Division.

During his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien emphasized the importance of forestry, particularly in human resource training within the sector, amid the challenges of climate change and ecosystem degradation. The President expressed his hope and recommendation for forestry universities and research institutes in the region to strengthen collaboration in training and scientific research to promote sustainable forestry development and enhance the quality of forestry human resources. He also extended his gratitude to the network member institutions for participating in the international conference and celebrating the 60th anniversary of Vietnam National University of Forestry.

At the forum, representatives from various universities and institutes delivered reports on forestry training and research, as well as activities undertaken in the year since the forum's establishment. Representing Vietnam National University of Forestry, Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Sam provided an overview of Vietnamese forestry, the university's achievements, and outcomes from over a year of collaboration with member institutions. He also proposed several activities for future cooperation.

On November 20, the delegation participated in several events and held bilateral meetings with partners to foster cooperation in training, scientific research, and faculty exchange.
Since the forum's establishment, nearly 30 staff and lecturers from Vietnam National University of Forestry have participated in training, research, and scientific seminars hosted by Southwest Forestry University. The forum has paved the way for new collaborative opportunities in the future.
