Conference to deploy International Cooperation activities in 2024

Attending the conference were Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien, President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cao Quoc An - Deputy Secretary in charge of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Van Khoa - Vice President in charge of Science, Technology and International Cooperation; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui The Doi – Vice President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Minh Toai – Vice President; Directors and Vice-directors of divisions; Deans and Vice-deans, Directors and Vice Directors of centers; Head of international cooperation projects; Scientists with a doctorate or higher, Secretary of the Youth Union, President of the University's Student Union; Employees with an overseas bachelor, master's or PhD degree.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien, President of the university emphasized: In 2023, the university has successfully implemented and completed the plans for international cooperation activities; affirmed the role and importance of international cooperation activities in the overall development of the university. The university recognized and appreciated the efforts of the International Cooperation Division and units within the university for promoting and supporting the implementation and successful completion of international cooperation goals and plans set out in 2023. Year of the Dragon, 2024 will be a particularly important year marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF). International cooperation activities will certainly be one of the university's prominent spearheads. Besides, the whole university needs to have new perspectives in international cooperation, and open cooperation, shifting the focus of international cooperation activities to each unit and individual in the university.    

Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Sam, Director of the International Cooperation Division presented a summary report, evaluating the results of international cooperation activities in 2023, with many outstanding points such as: training to improve the capacity of officials and students (70 officials and students were allowed to attend training and conferences abroad); implemented many international cooperation projects and programs, especially the ASEAN-Korea Garden project; established relationships and signed 16 new cooperation agreements with foreign partners; welcomed nearly 200 experts and officials to work and study at the university; laboratory equipment contribution to improving the capacity and position of the university. Prof. Sam also presented the orientation for International Cooperation in 2024. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Xuan Phuong, Vice Director of the International Cooperation Division, presented a summary of the construction process and main points of the Draft Regulations on management of the university's international cooperation activities; changes and additions compared to the 2021 Regulations.

With 3 written comments and 12 live comments, delegates attending the conference contributed many opinions focusing mainly on a number of issues such as: completing regulations and operating procedures of international cooperation; decentralizing authority to faculties and colleges/ institutes to directly act as focal points for implementing international cooperation activities; appointing specialized staff to undertake main tasks in the university's international cooperation; promoting advanced training programs in cooperation with the United States, international master's programs in cooperation with Germany; researching and opening joint programs with international partners; increasing international publications. The conference received many practical opinions to contribute to promote and further develop international cooperation activities in depth, both in quantity and quality for activities in the 2024 plan year, especially aiming towards the 60th anniversary of the university.

Concluding the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Van Khoa affirmed that the University accepted comments from the delegates and assigned the International Cooperation Division to preside over and coordinate with relevant units of the university to research and implement solutions while promoting the university's strengths in management and implementation of international cooperation activities; complete and soon issue Regulations on management of international cooperation activities; connect international cooperation with training, scientific research, technology transfer and strengthening the university's capability and position in the region and internationally.
