The delegation of the Embassy of the Republic of Finland visited and worked at Vietnam National University of Forestry-VNUF

At the meeting, there were Prof. Dr. Tran Van Chu – Secretary of the Party Committee, President of VNUF, Chairman of the Vietnam-Finland Friendship Association; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cao Quoc An – Chairman of the university Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Van Khoa – Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui The Doi – Vice President and leaders of divisions such as International Cooperation, Undergraduate Training, Postgraduate Training, Science and Technology and other Faculties/Colleges including Forestry, Forest Resource and Environmental Management, Wood Industry & Interior Design.

Opening the meeting, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Chu President of VNUF warmly welcomed the delegation led by Ambassador Keijo Norvanto and Deputy Ambassador Touko Piiparinen for visiting and working with the university, in order to promote cooperation between the two countries in the field of education in general and forestry education in particular. This is the first visit of Mr. Keijo Norvanto as the Finnish ambassador and also the third Finnish ambassador visiting to the university. It shows that the Finnish government's always interested in the cooperation in the field of forestry in general as well as cooperation in training and research with the university in particular. On behalf of the university, Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Sam, Director of International Cooperation Division introduced to the delegation about the university, its strengths and the cooperation between the university and Finnish partners in recent years such as the Erasmus+ BioEcon project "European-Vietnamese higher education network for Sustainable forest- and Bio-economy" in cooperation with the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (XAMK) funded by EU, the project "Strengthening Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development in Myanmar and Vietnam – CLIDEV", in partnership with Laurea University of Applied Sciences and University of Helsinki, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.

At the meeting, the Ambassador Mr. Keijo Norvanto emphasized the important role of forestry in the Finnish economy, the positive contribution of forests in the bioeconomy and circular economy. The Ambassador highly appreciated the results of the University's cooperation projects with Finnish partners as well as the ideas of the University about topics on educational cooperation such as scholarships for exchanging students and lecturers, updating textbook, funding scientific research, connecting of the university with Vietnamese and Finnish wood enterprises, applying high technologies such as A.I., remote sensing in sustainable forest resources management and biodiversity conservation, monitoring and evaluation forest resources and early warning of forest fires, wood modification technology to improve the quality of wood materials for the export wood processing industry of Vietnam.

The ambassador commit to be a "bridge" to further promote cooperation between the two countries in general as well as support the cooperation proposals of between the University and Finnish partners, and bring these common interest topics to the agenda programs of the coming visit of Finnish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry to Vietnam.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to regularly exchange and share cooperation opportunities to VNUF in the field of forestry where Finnish partners are strong, contributing to further strengthening the friendship, tradition and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Finland.
